Session 1: Diploma Core
{Experience Level: Beginner-Intermediate}

There is a wide diversity in the approach taken by schools to lead and manage the IB Diploma Core. In some smaller schools, just one person may be responsible for CAS, TOK and the Extended Essay, whereas other schools may have an entire team of people, including support staff. This discussion-based workshop will facilitate the sharing of good practice for the delivery of the IB Diploma Core and will consider how ManageBac can best be used to support students during their IB journey.

Session 1: PYP Curriculum Planning - Part 1
{Experience Level: Beginner-Intermediate}

This session is targeted for PYP coordinators to share insight into collaborative planning connections with Standards and Practices, especially with; Standard C1:
1. Collaborative planning and reflection addresses the requirements of the programme(s).
a. The programme of inquiry and all corresponding unit planners are the product of sustained collaborative work involving all the appropriate staff.
b. Planning at the school makes use of the PYP planner  and planning  process across the curriculum and by all teachers.
c. Planning at the school addresses all the essential elements to strengthen the transdisciplinary nature of the programme.

4. Collaborative planning and reflection ensures that all teachers have an overview of students’ learning experiences.
a. The school provides for easy access to completed Primary Years Programme planners.
b. The school ensures that Primary Years Programme planners are coherent records of student learning.

Programme standards and practices January 2014

Collaborative planning and Written Curriculum put huge strain on managing planners, scope and sequences, and documentation. All schools need a comprehensive solution to deal with the constant moderation and change that is prevalent to a living programme of inquiry.

In this session we will share how KIS International School in Bangkok, Thailand is using ManageBac to make sure that we are providing a structured, virtual learning environment for all our community members where the planning process, the assessment, and the daily communication are all connected.

Session 2: Community service, how to build a sustainable program with authentic links to the UN Global Goals.
Community service, which we describe as a combination of service learning and service as action, is a core part of creating the responsible global citizens we are seeking to empower. But, creating a sustainable program where your drop of effort helps fill a larger cup can be challenging. Even more challenging can be ensuring that the service is meaningful and has a lasting impact on both students and the community being served. Having reflected on the programs we have established previously, we have come up with some practical advice and principles for schools to get the most from their community service and learn from our trials and errors.

{Experience Level: Beginner-Intermediate}

This session is targeted for PYP coordinators and teachers to manage Programme Of Inquiry and Essential Elements of the PYP. Our perspective will be mostly gaining an understanding of Standards B1, B2, C1, and C2:

Standard B2: Resources and support

5. The physical and virtual learning environments, facilities, resources and specialized equipment support the implementation of the programme(s).

Standard C1: Collaborative planning
3. Collaborative planning and reflection addresses vertical and horizontal articulation.
a. There is a systematic approach to integration of the subject-specific scope and sequences and the programme of inquiry.
b. The school ensures balance and articulation between the transdisciplinary programme of inquiry and any additional single-subject teaching.

Standard C2: Written Curriculum
9. The written curriculum is informed by current IB publications and is reviewed regularly to incorporate developments in the programme(s).
a. There is a system for regular review and refinement of the programme of inquiry, individual units of inquiry and the subject-specific scope and sequences.

We will be sharing the different analytics tools that will help you to balance your programme of inquiry easily and collaboratively. Session 3: Future ready Education, the portfolio approach to preparing students with 21C skills.
It is hard to represent anyone with just a number and a few facts, but that is what is happening every year to graduating students around the world as they apply for the next steps in their learning journey. In the changing landscape of education where 21 century skills are becoming prized possessions, how we prepare students for the future is changing and how we represent them also needs to change. We would like to share some of our ideas on how students can be better represented by a bucket list approach where they get to express who they really are beyond the numbers.

Session 6: Preparing Today's teenagers for the 4th Industrial Revolution, the Disruption of Work
These days, there is a lot of talk about the 4th industrial revolution -- the disruption of global labour markets. There are a range of forces driving macro shifts in labour markets -- from burgeoning middle-classes in emerging markets, to the role of technology in industry -- and these forces will impact every age group in different ways. But the group that we think about are teens, students who intend to enter the labour markets in the next 4-7 years. For these students, who are already grappling with a post-secondary education landscape that is evolving rapidly in real-time, staying abreast of emerging changes in labour markets is not just important, it is vital. During this session, we will explore the key labour market shifts that will affect Diploma students, and I will propose several concrete strategies for helping these students contextualize higher education and early career thinking within a world whereby the only constant is change.

Session 6: PYP Communication
{Experience Level: ALL}

Managing communications effectively is a key leadership skill. Taking time to review your communications strategy and ideas will be time well spent. Many problems, in and out of schools, can be directly traced to whether information was communicated, how it was communicated, and who communicated it.

This session will focus on showing how successful communication and working relationships combine in programme management and leadership across the community.

Guiding Questions
  1. Are your reasons for communicating helping you lead the school in managing change?
  2. Is the way you communicate actively assisting you in problem-solving?
  3. Is the way you communicate helping you to strengthen working relationships?
  4. Are there two or three aspects of communication that you should emphasize during the next year?
  5. Is communication difficult for you? What can you do to resolve this?

We will focus on types of Communication that ManageBac offers:
  • Calendars
  • Portfolio
  • Reports
  • Goals
  • Cumulative Digital Portfolio
  • Integration with 3rd Party apps
  • Resources - Shared with Students & Parents

In this session, we will share how KIS International School in Bangkok, Thailand is using ManageBac to manage to integrate it's communication channels withing ManageBac and introduce to other options as well.
